Summary 

caption is text appears bellow or beside an image.

1. Social function
Describe, comment on pictures, photos, tables, graphs, charts

2.Text Structure
Can be:
- action/event/ activity
- people/thing that involved
- condition/scope of the situation

3. Topic
Activities, events, data, actual facts from newspapers that can grow behavior contained in KI

4. Linguistic elements
Nominal phrases for things, people, animals, locations, etc. which become focus, with or without a, the, this, those, my, their, etc.

5. Participle phrases
Speech, stress, intonation, spelling, punctuation and handwriting

6.Language Features
- Noun Phrase for a thing, a person, an animal, a location, etc. which is
focused on, with or without a, the, this, those, my, their, etc.
- Verb Phrase dealing picture/photograph/graph/chart
- spelling, punctuation, and handwriting

7. Tips to write caption:
• Do not begin with the words a, an, or the.
• Use present tense to describe action in a photo.
• Give readers information they cannot get from just looking at a photo.
• A caption should complete the photo. The reader should not have to look at the story, but should want to look at the story.
• Write captions so they go from specific to general or general to specific.
• Do not begin a caption with names.
• When identifying members of a group, write “from left,” not “from left to right.”
• “Above” and “pictured here” are unnecessary.
• Captions should not repeat information contained in the lead.
• Name people only if they are important to the picture.

HABIBIE Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie known as BJ. Habibie was born on 25 June 1936. He was the Third President of the Republic of Indonesia (1998–1999). Habibie was born in Parepare, South Sulawesi Province to Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and R.A. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. His father was an agriculturist from Gorontalo of Bugis descent and his mother was a Javanese noblewoman from Yogyakarta. His parents met while studying in Bogor. When he was 14 years old, Habibie’s father died. He remained in Germany as a research assistant under Hans Ebner at the Lehrstuhl und Institut für Leichtbau, RWTH Aachen to conduct research for his doctoral degree.
